This pretty vintage painted sideboard from Shanxi province would look great in a kitchen or bathroom with its icy blue tones. Dating to the 1920's, this Chinese sideboard has been recoloured a distressed blue.
Embodying the rich history and cultural significance of nomadic life, these Shanxi sideboards were once utilized for the storage of clothing, bedding, and grain. Additionally, they served as altar cabinets for paying homage to family ancestors. Featuring two compartments, divided by a shelf, and two drawers, this piece embodies both functionality and tradition.
These sideboards bear many similarities to Mongolian sideboards and are from the north where Shanxi borders Inner Mongolia. Originally top opening, it has been customised by converting the front panels to doors.
